Frequently asked

If your question isn't here, call or email — I'd rather answer it properly than have you guess.

An instructor holds a raised block while a young student mirrors the same shape beside him.
I have a disability. Can I actually do Kung-Fu?

Yes. That is the entire reason this school exists. We start from what your body does, not from a technique you are expected to force yourself into. Students train from standing, from seated, with limited range, with limited stamina, with sensory or cognitive differences — and they progress.

Do you water the training down?

No. We change how a technique is expressed, not whether it is real. The principle behind a strike, a stance or a piece of footwork stays intact and is held to a real standard. Adapted does not mean easier; it means yours.

My child has never done a martial art. Is that a problem?

Not at all. Most students start with no background whatsoever. The early sessions are about getting comfortable, learning how the class works, and finding a few movements that feel good to repeat.

What happens in a first session?

We talk before we train. I want to know what you want out of it, what your body is dealing with, what has and hasn't worked elsewhere, and anything that helps or hinders your focus. Then we do some light movement so I can see how you move. Nobody is thrown in.

Do you work with schools, day programs or care facilities?

Yes — that's what on-site training is for. Get in touch and we'll talk through group size, space and what the participants need.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothes you can move in, and whatever footwear works best for you. No uniform is needed to start.

Can a parent, carer or support worker stay in the room?

Always welcome, in any format. For some students that presence is what makes training possible.

How do I start?

Call Ken Brown on (424) 439-3174 or email admin@adaptivekungfu.com. Tell me a little about the student and which format you're interested in, and we'll go from there.
